Rotterdam Crooswijk – Kunstenaarscollectief KEES exposeert van 5 t/m 28 oktober 2012 in De Witte Slagerij aan de Rakstraat 2 te Rotterdam. KEES bestaat uit Maaike Kramer, Marjolein Witte en Boukje van Iperen. De opening van de expositie vindt plaats op vrijdag 5 oktober om 20.00 uur. Te zien zijn schilderijen, foto’s, sculpturen, installaties en videowerken.
De drie kunstenaars vormen sinds 2010 het collectief KEES. Zij komen samen voor feedback, overleg en samenwerking en hebben één gezamenlijke expositie per jaar. Het werk dat in De Witte Slagerij te zien is, is dit jaar ontstaan.
Maaike Kramer – Het werk van Kramer is een zoektocht naar eigen bestaansrecht. Dit vertaalt zich naar bestaansrecht binnen de kunstwereld. Zij onderzoekt en documenteert deze wereld en gebruikt deze documentatie altijd als basis van het werk. In De Witte Slagerij zal Kramer werk laten zien dat gemaakt is naar aanleiding van jarenlang fotograferen in musea. Kramer ontdekte dat ze vaak werk gefotografeerd heeft, wat ze eigenlijk niet gezien heeft in de expositie. Zij heeft deze werken opnieuw bestaansrecht gegeven door deze te verwerken in een werk van haarzelf. ‘Wat blijft er van het origineel over’, ‘doet dit er nog toe’ en ‘krijgt deze vertaling toch een eigen bestaansrecht’ zijn vragen die Kramer aan de beschouwer voorlegt.
Marjolein Witte – Witte exposeert o.a. het videowerk Plengoffer (Libation). Een autobiografisch en psychologisch zelfportret dat zich uit in een eeuwigdurend ritueel van het offeren met melk en wassen in melk. Thema in dit werk is de moeder, waarbij moedermelk metafoor staat voor de band tussen moeder en kind en het ritueel voor het lijden van het kind, maar ook dat van de moeder, voor schuld en vergiffenis. Witte haar werk is veelal doorspekt met autobiografische elementen en bevindt zich altijd op het psychologisch en emotioneel vlak van het mens-zijn. In De Witte Slagerij zullen nog andere videowerken en foto’s te zien zijn van Witte.
Boukje van Iperen – Van Iperen toont o.a. het beeld ‘Offer’. Deze sculptuur van paraffine is een afgietsel van haar eigen lichaam. Het werk zal alleen tijdens deze expositie te zien zijn, omdat het langzaam opbrandt. Inspiratie voor haar werk vindt Van Iperen veelal terug in onze Westers christelijke traditie. De verandering van oorsprong door toedoen van tijd en mens en het beeld van de sterke en/of zondige vrouw zijn thema’s waar zij zich mee bezig houdt. Tijdens de expositie zal ook het videowerk ‘Keeping my Sanctuary’ te zien zijn.
Artist collective KEES – Nieuw Vleesch In De Kuip
Artist Collective KEES will exhibit in De Witte Slagerij on the Rakstraat 2, Rotterdam, from 5 to 28 October 2012. The KEES artists are Maaike Kramer, Marjolein Witte and Boukje van Iperen. The grand opening of the exposition will kick off at 8 P.M. on Friday 5 October. The expo will consist of paintings, photos, sculptures, installations and video art.
The three artists founded Kees in 2010. They come together to critique, discuss and work together, and organize one shared exposition a year. All pieces shown at De Witte Slagerij were created this year.
Maaike Kramer – Kramer’s work focuses on the search for legitimacy. This translates into the right to exist in the modern day art scene. She researches and documents this scene and translates this material into her own artwork. In the De Witte Slagerij, Kramer will display work that is based on many years of photographing various museums. Kramer discovered that she often catches artwork on camera that she didn’t consciously see when visiting the exposition. She has legitimated these works by integrating them into her own artwork. Kramer asks the viewers of these works what remains of the original, if the original still matters in this new translation of the work and if this translation of the original piece is a legitimate piece of art in its own right.
Marjolein Witte – Witte exhibits her video artwork ‘Plengoffer’ (Libation). This autobiographical and psychological self-portrait bases itself in the eternal rituals of sacrificing milk and bathing in milk. This work revolves around the theme of ‘mother’, where mother’s milk is a metaphor for the bond between mother and child, and the ritual is a metaphor for the suffering of the child—as well as the mother—in the cycle of guilt and forgiveness. Witte’s work touches upon many autobiographical elements and always relates to the psychological and emotional bases of humanity. Beyond Plengoffer, various photographs and video artworks of Witte will be displayed at De Witte Slagerij.
Boukje van Iperen – Amongst others, Van Iperen will exhibit the statue ‘Offer’ (Sacrifice). This paraffin sculpture is a cast of her own body. The work will only be displayed during this exposition, because it will slowly burn up. Van Iperen finds the inspiration for most of her work in the Western Christian tradition. Important themes within the artworks are the change of origin through time and men, and the representation of the strong and/or sinful woman. The video work ‘Keeping my Sanctuary’ will also be shown during the exposition.
